The fediverse
One network, many homes
Thousands of independent servers that talk to each other. Pick any of them: you can still talk to everyone.

It works like email
You don't need Gmail to write to someone on Outlook. You don't need Mastodon to follow someone on Mastodon.
Many servers
Run by people, associations and communities. Anyone can start one.
Shared languages
Open protocols let different apps understand each other.
Your address
Name and server, like [email protected]. Easy to share.
Two languages, one Disbigle
ActivityPub
The open standard of the W3C since 2018. Spoken by Mastodon and by most of the fediverse.
The diaspora* protocol
Born in 2010 with diaspora*, private by design, with aspects. Spoken by diaspora*, Friendica, Hubzilla and Socialhome.
Most apps speak only one of them. Disbigle speaks both, so it can join conversations that would otherwise stay apart.

Why it matters
- No single company owns it, nobody can sell it or shut it down
- No ads business: servers live on donations and volunteers
- Each community sets its own rules and moderation
- You can move to another server and keep your followers
Quick answers
Do I need an account on every app?
No. One account, on any server, is enough to follow everyone.
How do I follow someone elsewhere?
Search their full address, like name@server, and press Follow.
Which server should I choose?
One whose rules and people you like. Ours is app.disbigle.com.
Is Bluesky part of it?
Not directly: it uses another protocol. Bridges such as Bridgy Fed can connect the two.
