How it works
Run your own server
Disbigle needs Node.js, PostgreSQL and Redis. No Docker, no magic.
What you need
Node.js 22
The current long-term support release.
PostgreSQL 16+
Your posts, people and settings.
Redis
Queues for federated delivery and rate limits.
A small VPS is enough for a few hundred people. You also need a domain and an HTTPS certificate.
Install in a few commands
git clone https://github.com/faghy/disbigle.git /opt/disbigle
cd /opt/disbigle
pnpm install --frozen-lockfile
pnpm --filter @disbigle/web build
# write /etc/disbigle/env: domain, database, Redis, secrets
set -a; . /etc/disbigle/env; set +a; pnpm db:migrate
sudo cp deploy/disbigle-server.service deploy/disbigle-worker.service /etc/systemd/system/
sudo systemctl enable --now disbigle-server disbigle-workerThe full guide, with the nginx configuration, is in docs/deploy.md.
Ready for real life
Backups
A nightly database and media backup, with a tested restore.
Health checks
A timer checks the services every five minutes and sends an alert.
