Diego writes from Bluesky, I write from Disbigle. We follow each other and we talk, every day, as if we were on the same network. We are not: in between there is a bridge, and from today anyone on Disbigle can cross it.

Two networks, one bridge
Bluesky does not speak ActivityPub, the language of Mastodon and of the fediverse: it uses its own, the AT Protocol. Bridgy Fed is a free, open source bridge, run by a non-profit, that translates between the two. Disbigle speaks ActivityPub, so it works with it as it is: nothing to install.
Be seen from Bluesky
- Search @[email protected] on Disbigle and follow it. That is the switch: the bridge only carries people who ask for it.
- In a few minutes you exist on Bluesky as name.disbigle.com.ap.brid.gy. Tell your friends there that address (mine is faghy.disbigle.com.ap.brid.gy). The first time, Bluesky may take a few hours to show it in search.
Follow people on Bluesky
Add @bsky.brid.gy after their Bluesky handle and search it on Disbigle: Diego, who is diegoch64.bsky.social, becomes @[email protected]. Press Follow, and his posts arrive in your Home like any other.
One condition: the bridge works both ways only if the person on Bluesky has turned it on too, by following @ap.brid.gy there. If you cannot find someone, ask them to do it.
What crosses the bridge
- Public posts, with photos, links and hashtags.
- Replies, likes, reposts and follows, in both directions: a reply from Bluesky lands in your thread on Disbigle.
- Not private posts: the ones for followers, for aspects or direct stay on Disbigle. Bluesky is a public network, and the bridge respects that.
Changed your mind?
Block @[email protected] and the bridge stops: your profile disappears from Bluesky. Nothing changes on Disbigle or in the rest of the fediverse.
Thanks to Diego, who was the first to cross it with me. See you on the other side!
