Looking for that photo of the sea from two summers ago, among hundreds of posts? Diego asked us for albums, as diaspora* once had for a while. Here they are, together with a new tab on every profile.

The Media tab
Open any profile, yours or someone else's, also on Mastodon or diaspora*: next to Posts there is Media, with every photo and video in a grid, newest first. Click one to see it full screen, move with the arrows and jump to its post.
Your albums
- In the Albums tab of your profile, press "New album" and give it a name, and a description if you like.
- Open one of your photos and press Add to album: tick the albums you want. One photo can be in many albums, and you can create a new one right there.
- Each album has its own page, with its own address to share.
Private stays private
An album doesn't change who sees a photo: the post it comes from decides. A photo for your Family aspect shows in the album only to your family; whoever cannot see any photo of an album doesn't see the album at all. Sensitive photos stay blurred until clicked, and are never used as a cover.
Deleting an album leaves the photos in their posts; deleting a post takes its photo out of the albums. Albums are also in the export of your data.
On your phone too
Media and albums are also in the Android and iPhone apps: the same tabs on every profile, and "Add to album" when you open one of your photos. Update the app with Obtainium or SideStore to get them. Thanks, Diego, for the idea!
